Meet the Band: Tom Williams

28 November 2018

Tom was a local bass player in Arizona when we met him……

He was recommended to us for a run of shows that we did in the Mesa area in 2008.  We instantly fell in love with his musical style, his gentle demeanor and his beautiful bass.  Tom went on tour with us later that year and a friendship developed that remains today.

Tom graduated from the University of Tennessee Knoxville with a Bachelor of Music degree in Trumpet performance – and spent 11 years serving our country musically, playing bass for the Air Force in “The Airmen of Note” and in the Army “US Army Field Band”.

Tom has worked diligently to learn the library of John Denver’s music, and additionally makes himself indispensable to the band by pitching in with the driving, load-in and set up of sound equipment.

Tom’s favorite John Denver recording is “Boy from the Country”

Tom appreciates John’s music for it’s spirituality and loves being part of our band family.

“Yes, it’s a bass!”

Tom’s plays a Steinberger electric upright fretless bass….we get questions about it every concert… it’s quite unique, just like Tom.

"It was one of the best programs we have had here and I hope you will come back up next year. The sound and look were perfect and my friends talked all night about how much enjoyment and sentiment your show gave us."

"It was a real trip down memory lane. ... Jim Curry was over there sounding like John Denver. A couple of times I closed my eyes and went back 15 years. It was strange and cool at the same time.". . .
